Comic- Hyakushokizoku

Have you ever experienced agriculture? How much do you know about it? This time, I'll introduce the comic Hyakushokizoku (百姓貴族). The genre is farmer's daily life and comedy. The comic was written by Hiromu Arakawa and the story is about the author's life. Mainly, she writes about her life when she was an agriculture high school student. The main characters are author and her family.  The comic was published in 4 volumes by Shinsyokan. Volume 1 came out in 2009. The price is 680 yen plus tax. Hyakusyokizoku is a minor comic, but Hiromu Arakawa is a very famous comic artist. Her popular comics are Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師) and Gin no Saji Silver Spoon (銀の匙).

First of all, Hiromu Arakwa was born in Tokachi of Hokkaido. Her parents manage dairy farm and upland cropping. The farm name is Arakawa Farm. It is a famous farm in Hokkaido so the farm has appeared on Japanese TV show. Arakawa family precept is "He who does not work, neither shall he eat" so she and her sisters help their parents.  Mainly, she draws her experience when she was an agriculture high student. She explains how to grow vegetables and take care of animals.

I haven't experienced agriculture, so I want to try it. However, I know agriculture is very hard. My younger sister goes to an agriculture high school and she says everyday "I'm tired". I heard from my younger sister that teacher and students don't have holiday, because they must take care of animals everyday. However, I think agriculture is very important, because all people eat foods everyday. If there are not farmers, we can't eat anything. People were got animals and plant life, so we must say "Itadakimasu (いただきます)" before we eat. If you want to know farmers life, I recommend this comic.
